“Stay close to nature and its eternal laws will protect you”
Max Gerson
Throughout our lives our bodies are being filled with a variety of disease and cancer causing pollutants. These toxins reach us through the air we breathe, the food we eat, the medicines we take and the water we drink. As more of these poisons are used every day and cancer rates continue to climb, it becomes necessary to turn to a proven, natural detoxifying treatment like the Gerson Therapy, that has a 60 year history of success.
The Gerson Therapy is a powerful, natural treatment that boosts the body’s own immune system to heal cancer, tuberculosis, arthritis, heart disease, allergies, and many other degenerative diseases by flooding the body with a super-dose of enzymes, minerals and nutrients from almost 20 pounds of organically grown fruits and vegetables daily. Most is used to make fresh, raw juice, one glass every hour, 13 times per day. Raw and cooked organic foods are generously consumed. Oxygenation is usually more than doubled, as oxygen deficiency in the blood contributes to many degenerative diseases. The metabolism is also stimulated through the addition of supplements and by avoiding toxins. Enemas are used to aid in eliminating the lifelong buildup of toxins from the liver.
One of Dr. Max Gerson’s most famous patients was Dr. Albert Schweitzer, whom Gerson cured of advanced diabetes when Schweitzer was 75 years old. Schweitzer later returned to his African hospital, won the Nobel prize, and worked past 90. Schweitzer wrote “I see in Dr. Gerson one of the most eminent geniuses in the history of medicine.”
Diet
The following is a typical daily diet for a Gerson patient on the full therapy regimen:
• Thirteen glasses of fresh, raw carrot with apple and green leaf juices prepared hourly from fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. (The malic acid contained in the apples mixed with the ground carrots helps to release the minerals from the carrots.)
• Three full vegetarian meals, freshly prepared from organically grown fruits, vegetables and whole grains. A typical meal will include salad, cooked vegetables, baked potatoes, vegetable soup and juice.
• Fresh fruit available at all hours for snacking, in addition to the regular meals.
Since juicing is a crucial part of the Gerson Therapy, it is extremely important to have a juicer that will produce the highest quality and volume of juice, free of pulp. To do this, juices must be made by grinding the vegetables first, mixing them, and then pressing them in a press.
Some masticating or centrifugal juicers tend to heat the juice in the process of juicing and produce very high levels of friction, which compromises both the quality and content of juice they produce. There are also some juice extractors on the market that have a slower rotation per minute, these are better but not ideal.
Based on their many years of experience, the Gerson Institute recommends Norwalk Juices. These have a grinder mechanism that turns at a slow rate, and a separate, motorized hydraulic press that extracts the juice from the ground pulp. They also approve the use of a Champion juicer, using it in the grinding mode, and then pressing the finely ground pulp in a separate operation, evacuating the juice with a K & K hydraulic press. Only three medium carrots and an apple results in 8 ounces of juice of great texture and taste.
Supplements
• Potassium compound

Detoxification
A very important part of the Gerson Therapy is frequent detoxification of the tissues and blood through the use of coffee and/or chamomile enemas (which patients report decrease pain and hasten healing).
As the juices begin rebuilding the body and encouraging toxins to be released from the cells into the bloodstream, a great deal of stress is placed upon the liver. Since the liver alone cannot deal with this sudden influx of toxins into the bloodstream, the coffee enemas stimulate liver filtering and greatly aid the liver’s ability to remove serum toxins and residues from environmental, chemotherapeutic, and other sources. Some detoxification of this nature is always needed.
Clay packs are used as an anti-inflammatory and draw out toxins through the skin into the clay. It is also good for rheumatoid arthritis at the painful joints, boils, cysts, etc.
Duration
Though Dr. Gerson specifies about 18 months in a cancer therapy, with today’s more toxic environment they are finding patients need to be on the therapy for at least two years, and in many cases three. Non-malignant diseases such as arthritis and Lupus fall on the shorter end of the scale, while advanced cases of cancer fall closer to the three year range.
The time it takes to see results on this therapy varies greatly from patient to patient, but usually the faster-moving the cancer, the quicker it is controlled and eliminated. It is of utmost importance that patients continue the full therapy according to their doctor’s instructions for the full length of time, not just until symptoms improve. And once they have discontinued the treatment to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Patients who have been already pretreated with chemotherapy should not use the Gerson Therapy at home without an experts supervision to control the detoxification. When a patient receives chemotherapy, a percentage of each dose stays lodged within the body and once the Gerson Therapy begins to work, it can quickly dislodge toxins, including chemotherapy residue from cells, into the bloodstream, when this happens often the body cannot detoxify fast enough and they may be prone to liver failure.
Also, people who have: diabetics, brain metastases, severe kidney damage, and foreign bodies such as pacemakers, breast implants, steel plates or screws will need to be under the supervision of a professional when beginning the Gerson therapy.
