How Many Calories Are In The Food You Eat
Would not it be wonderful if you can just pop in a magic pill and lose weight while lying on the coach with the bag of chips and beer (or box of chocolates)? Unfortunately, there are no magic pills. If you want to lose weight the only way is to consume less calories than you burn. But do you really know how many calories certain foods contain? You may be surprised.
Let’s look at how many calories you are going to consume in a day. For breakfast you have Quakers Oatmeal (150 calories in 1/3 cup portion) with brown sugar (1 tsp – 15 calories) and a banana (121 calorie). Or maybe you decided to have a bagel (210 calories) with Philadelphia cream cheese (1 oz – 100 calories). On the way to work you stop at Starbucks and pick up a tall Caramel Macchiato (200 calories). So, your morning caloric intake was from 286 to 410 calories.
For lunch you decided to go to Burger’s King. Burger’s Double Whopper with Cheese has 1010 calories in it. Add to that French fries (250 calories) and a medium Coke (280 calories), and you just ate 1540 calories at lunch. If you chose any shakes instead of Coke this amount will increase up to 300 calories.
At 4 pm you needed a quick pick-me-up. At Starbucks you chose Cappuchino (Grande – 110 calories) and Petite Vanilla Scone (170 calories). Maybe you decided to be good and have Honey Yogurt Parfait – yogurt is good for you as well as honey and fruit, right? In this case it is wrong. This Parfait just added 320 calories to your daily caloric intake.
Time for dinner. You were dreaming about Tator Tot Casserole (8 oz -390 calories) all day long. You washed it down with a bottle of Bud Light (110 calories). It added up to 500 calories. If you decided to have pizza instead of casserole, Digiorno Pepperoni pizza has 360 calories per slice. Since it is almost impossible to eat just one serving of casserole or one slice of pizza, let’s double that amount and add another bottle of beer. It means that your dinner was worth 1000 calories.
Total amount of calories you consumed that day was 2840. Average amount of daily calories for an average man is about 2000 calories, for a woman – 1800 (that amount greatly depends on your weight and how physically active you are).
